IllstrationFriday: “Gummi Bears”

JellyFish – The Ocean GummiBears

This weeks IF concept was dessert. Just getting back from the beach, the ocean is still on my mind. This is obviously the reason for my approach.  Went for the old school film grain poster look.

Sorry so late and so sloppy… Still in vacation mode!

Enjoy

vacation

So we just got back from the Outer Banks. This was my first OBX experience. AMAZING! Nothing like what I expected. Our house was spectacular. We were 8 miles from the nearest paved road. Our only way to civilization was an 8 mile beach/baja ride along the water. We rented a Jeep Wrangler because the VW was not going to cut it.

Pure relaxation. No email, no phone, no TV. Just the sun, the dogs, my fiance and our neighbors. Every day was beautiful until our nemesis EARL decided to pay us a visit. On thursday morning, we were evacuated from heaven and told to head back to the real world. Despite the short stay (5 days instead of 7) we decided it was a place we would love to go visit again.

If you have never been to the Outer Banks, I would highly recommend it. Tourists do not exist, boardwalk to not exist. Just the amenities that mother nature has to offer. It was truly a great way to relax.

I posted a few pics for some visuals.

Enjoy, I DID!

Illustration Friday: Artificial

•August 3, 2010 • 4 Comments

Illustration Friday, telledesigns

This is my design for Illustration Friday this week. The concept is Artificial.

I decided to go outside the box on this one and create an artificial branding ad for an artificial clothing line. (badboy)

I have no idea where I came up with that name.

All done in photoshop..

-The logo I vectored with the pen tool.

-The child i got from Istock

-All the tattoos and mowhawk i found online

– Simple overlay techniques and blending modes to achieve the vintage look

Sorry for such a low res piece. I was working quickly and didn’t have the time to pull high res images.

Hope you like. I think it’s kind of silly actually.

Illustration Friday Concept: Double

Illustration Friday Concept: Double

My design for Illustration Friday (www.illustrationfriday.com).

This weeks concept is double. Since I love Japanese artwork, tattooing, culture, etc… I decided to incorporate this style into IF’s concept.

I guess this would be the first actual Illustration I have posted on IF since I started…I love doing Illustrations but I do a lot more digital manipulation (as you can see) http://www.telledesigns.com

I promise that im purchasing a tablet very soon so that my illustration turnaround will be much faster and hopefully the designs will be a lot cleaner.

Illustration done in Adobe Illustator using pen and convert tool with a mouse.

As always, all feedback is recommended.

Thanks and have a great weekend.

Illustration Friday: DIARY

•July 14, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Here is my submission for Illustration Friday this week. The concept was Diary.

I wanted to create an abstract way to convey how people use diaries as a way to completely open themselves up. They completely let everything inside of them escape on to paper. The good, the bad and the ugly.  In this piece, i refrained from adding the bad and the ugly. 🙂

As always, all feedback is good feedback.

Thanks

I had to post this because it honestly blows my mind. Has anyone ever used a drawing tablet with Photoshop? I have heard mixed reviews.

Are they easy to use?

How about cartoon illustrations?

I know you have to have some freehand skills but how much? I mean, can something like this be done after a few months – year of practice or is this person just a freak of nature?

I really want to invest the money in one of these but need some feedback from those who use them.

Thanks

Pandemonium

Ok – I don’t want to come across as this dark, pessimistic, assh*le. I just continuously watch the news every morning and it’s like, Day 35 of the BP oil spill, Day 50 of the BP oil spill, etc…. When is this going to end?

This company makes like a Kadrillion dollars a quarter. They can employ the smartest people on the planet! Still, nobody can figure out how to stop oil from gushing into the ocean? I mean, they got HD cameras a thousand feet underwater so that we can see the damage in real-time. That’s not even their industry but they still managed to pull that off.

I don’t know, maybe im missing something…I guess capping this pipe is harder than rocketing a man to the moon?

In any case, No, I do not think this tragedy will ever become as severe as this depiction. I still wanted to put something on paper to record this event.

It’s not finished. I will replace this one with the finished once it’s done.

Thanks
